# BCBA-Owned Isn’t a Green Flag

Girl. You finally get the BCBA cert. Then the email lands… They don't have a BCBA seat right now. The "bridge" offer: work at an RBT-adjacent rate (crowd was talking ~$42/hr) until Medicaid credentialing and staffing catch up… Cue the group chat: "is this even okay?"

Last week we said ownership isn't the green flag for PE. This week's plot twist: BCBA-owned isn't either.

**The scene Reddit actually cast**

New BCBA at a small BCBA-owned clinic — the anti-PE dream on paper — then you're filling gaps on direct while you wait for credentialing. Loud takes: Decline. Start date should follow credentialing. Who supervises you? How does billing work? Offer questions, not vibe questions.

**The other side:** a paid bridge can beat unpaid waiting. Counter-counter: Medicaid may reimburse retroactively once credentialing is complete. If their plan depends on you taking the hit? Pattern > panic.

**Three questions before you accept the bridge**

1. What's the hard start date as a BCBA — and what happens if credentialing slips? **"Until staffing catches up" is not a date.**
2. What am I billing as, who supervises me, and what rate on day one vs day credentialed? **If foggy, the logo won't save you.**
3. If Medicaid reimburses once I'm credentialed, why an RBT rate while I wait? **The math should math.**

Clear answers? Glow-up. Vague? "Family-owned" might be branding.

**Pair's Take**

We don't romanticize PE *or* the BCBA-owned sticker. We screen start date, rate, billing path, supervision, and whether the clinic can say the plan out loud. Don't rent your cert out as a temporary RBT costume unless the bridge is real, dated, and paid like you earned the letters.
